Charlie Brinkin was a Murin Jedi Muringar language group man who resided most of his adult life at Port Keats before moving in 1978 to live at the Nadiri Phrida outstation in his Estate of Hyland Bay at the Moyle River mouth. He began painting sometime immediately after WW11 and continued all his life to produce mainly distinctive lyrical figurative oval barks.

He worked as an informant & friend of renowned anthropologist WEH (Bill) Stanner during his field work over 40 years.
This dot Estate Map bark represents real cutting edge material. Clear evidence that in early barks at Port Keats  traditional iconography was being employed (Nirwili is the 1952 spelling).  The Murinpatha Muringar – Port Keats – Daly River groups look south for ceremony as deep as Lajamanu so it is understandable that this bark by Charlie Brinkin displays the same iconography as the 1974 Papunya Tula  greats; Kaapa, Cliff Possum, Tim Leura &  Billy Stockman. A ritual ground mosaic map subject on bark ahead of its time by several decades.
