leangle1Extremely early ancient example with fine rat tooth tula engraved fluted interlocking, asymmetrical design.  Fully fluted handle with knurled finger grip final.  This leangle club type with protruding head tang comes from the arid Pilbara  area of Western Australia and very possibly dates from pre contact period (see Edge-Partington p351 No.6 British Museum example attributed Nicole Bay). Collected in Perth by local antique dealer. This club type was considered to be the most lethal as the sharp head could reach around narrow parrying shields.  Heavy ironwood, late 1700s early 1800s.  Ex Robert Croll Collection Melbourne. Length: 55cm (22 inches) tip of beak to handle final.
