SOLOMON ISLAND BOUGAINVILLE BUKA PORTRAIT FIGURE c1920s.

Beautiful stylised realistic portrait figure holding a Kokorra dance paddle in left hand & ribbed paddle club (see Waite Plate 3,14,17).

Figure wears traditional loin cloth, shell inlay eyes, 19th Century woven arm bands & hair style.

Originally from an early NZ collection then Geoffrey Hales Esq. Melbourne to the Palmer Family Collection.

There are four other Solomon figures in this collection by the same hand.
